THE BIGGEST INDEPENDENT DISCOVERY EVENT

About THE Soundstage Concept

Interior of Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns
Soundstage in the Screen QLD Cairns Building

The Soundstage is a live music series staged at Screen Queensland Studios in Cairns and produced by OzInDi Network Australia. Each edition brings some of the country’s biggest independent artists and the best of Far North Queensland together on one bill, performs them for a live audience, and captures the whole night as a multi-camera live stream in stunning 4K for viewers right across Australia.

It is part concert, part television show, part studio, part training ground, and it is built to keep going.

A great night out, and a real broadcast

Every edition is a curated evening of live music in the Cairns studio, hosted by a presenter who introduces the artists and sits down with them for short interviews between sets. Professional sound, lighting and staging carry the show.

If you are in the room, it is a brilliant night of live music. If you are watching from anywhere in Australia, it is a properly produced broadcast: concert sound, presenter links, artist interviews and clean graphics, streamed live in 4K and carried live on radio, reaching more than 200,000 listeners a day across Australia and New Zealand.

The Soundstage TV show

Every edition becomes an episode of The Soundstage, a television show exclusive to OzInDi Network Australia and available on all streaming platforms. The show takes the live performance and builds it out with backstage access, artist stories and the moments you miss from the front row, so the concert lives well beyond the night itself.

The flagship artists

Each edition flies some of the biggest Australian independent stars up to Cairns to headline the showcase, giving Far North Queensland audiences a first class live experience and connecting those artists with new fans in the north and, through the broadcast, right across Australia. Local acts share the stage with them, holding the majority of every line-up.

For artists, and their industry

The Soundstage is where artists meet the industry. For each edition we fly up industry professionals from across the music business, including PR, record label representatives and artist managers, to sit down with showcase artists for one on one sessions. It is a rare chance for a developing artist to pitch, learn and build real relationships with people who can move their career forward.

Beyond the one on ones, artists gain a professional live performance, national broadcast exposure, interview content, and approved performance footage to use in their own portfolios.

The Live Interview Podcast

Running alongside the main show, The Soundstage hosts a live interview podcast, produced and hosted live by a separate podcast team inside the Screen Queensland recording studios. It captures longer conversations with the performing artists and special guests, straight from the room where it all happens.

For crew, presenters and students

Behind the cameras, The Soundstage is a working classroom. Developing screen and audio crew, emerging presenters and students step into real production roles, from cameras and vision switching to audio, lighting, stage and floor management, podcasting and editing.

The value is repetition. Across the editions, participants shadow and assist, then operate with a mentor, then lead a role, then mentor the next person coming through. Four nights on the crew become a genuine portfolio.

More than the night itself

Most events end when the audience goes home. The Soundstage keeps producing: behind the scenes stories, a recurring video interview space, podcast conversations, radio programs made with OzInDi Caster, and an on demand library of performances and interviews with proper captions and credits.

One night on stage becomes months of content and learning.

Why Cairns

The series is built around Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns as a creative and community hub, with Far North Queensland artists at the centre and a bridge to the rest of the country. It is designed to grow regional skills and jobs, lift local stories, and open doors between regional practitioners and the wider industry.

What is coming up

The first Soundstage is being tested in November 2026 as a free showcase, a way of proving the idea before the full pilot. The series is planned as four quarterly editions across a 14 month pilot, with dates, line ups and details confirmed closer to each edition.
